What is WRAP?

  • The Wisconsin Registry for Alzheimer's Prevention
  • One of the world’s largest and longest running studies of individuals at risk for Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Approximately 1,580 individuals, followed over time to learn about biological, health and lifestyles factors that affect the disease. Many participants have been in WRAP for over 17 years!
  • A comprehensive data set that includes cognition, lifestyle, physical activity, biomarkers, genetics, and metabolomics.
  • A registry of volunteers available to other researchers studying Alzheimer’s disease.
  • A program-wide plan to understand and address health disparities in Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Part of the Initiative to End Alzheimer's Disease (memoriesmatteruw.org).

Participation in WRAP includes an initial study visit and follow-up visits every 2 years. At each visit, study volunteers are asked to:

  • Complete a series of questionnaires.
  • Have their height, weight and vital signs measured.
  • Complete cognitive tests to check memory and other cognitive skills.
  • Give a blood sample for laboratory testing.
  • Provide stored blood samples for use in future analyses.
  • Complete a brief medical exam with a trained clinician.
  • Optional procedure to collect valuable Cerebral Spinal Fluid (CSF).
